Life & Job Skills Work Stations
Mrs. Slagle's classroom has hundreds of vocational and life skills work systems based on the TEACCH methodology. All systems vary in their level of difficulty depending on each student's abilities. Areas such as current events, shopping, menu reading & calculation, tip calculation, cash register, packaging, assembling, health lessons, writing letters are just a hand full of the tasks practiced. Jobs are created according to students interest and needs. Each task visually answers four questions for the student in order to provide predictability: 1.) What work 2.) How much? 3.) When finished? 4.) What next? When our students understand what is being expected, they are more available for learning. Within this area other curriculum area are addressed such as Math/Science and ELA/Social Studies.

Social Skill Curriculum
PEACCE classrooms continue to have a strong emphasis on social skill development. Much of our time together as a group is spent exploring social situations through discussion, role plays, social stories and scheduled social events.
Michelle Garcia's Social Thinking curriculum: http://www.socialthinking.com/ is one curriculum we use to target improvement in social thinking abilities. Skills are practiced during small group sessions and within the community at every opportunity.

The Zones of Regulation are taught in all of our classrooms. The Zones of Regulation is a curriculum geared toward helping students gain skills in consciously regulating their actions, which in turn leads to increased control and problem solving abilities. Using a cognitive behavior approach, the curriculum’s learning activities are designed to help students recognize when they are in different states called “zones,” with each of four zones represented by a different color. In the activities, students also learn how to use strategies or tools to stay in a zone or move from one to another. Students explore calming techniques, cognitive strategies, and sensory supports so they will have a toolbox of methods to use to move between zones.
